An intriguing exhibition of works by Bru Robinson-Haigh and Paul Critchley
Two exhibitions in one : These two British born artists have mounted possibly the most interesting and intriguing exhibition that the casino has seen for some time.
The majority of the works follow the basic theme : Streets and buildings of Altea.
The intriguing thing is that both artists have captured the heart and soul of the town, but in such totally different ways.
Bru Robinson-Haigh’s watercolours especially portray an instantly recognizable Altea with delicate colour and line bringing out its beauty while totally avoiding the "chocolate box effect".
Bru has lived in Altea for over 20 years and her love and knowledge of the town is quite evident in her work. Until recently she was in the property business, perhaps that is why, when looking at a painting of a house or a building one can also sense the shape of the interior.
Paul Critchley's paintings are in total contrast, they are totally unconventional in that they have no frames or confines and are any shape but square.
His use of light, shade and perspective make his buildings three dimensional and very striking. The intense colours of his skies capture the Mediterranean. Paul’s Altea couldn't be anywhere but Spain. Well worth a visit a thoroughly absorbing collection.
